STATE OF VERMONT RECOGNIZES VERMONT COFFEE COMPANY® FOR ITS ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP
Company’s Renewable Roastery Initiative Receives Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence
Middlebury, Vermont– Vermont Coffee Company received the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence during a ceremony held at its Middlebury headquarters on August 31. The award recognizes the company’s initiative to roast its coffee with 100% renewable biogas*, and it is the first coffee roaster in the U.S. to accomplish this goal. In addition to Vermont Coffee Company, awards were presented to The Alchemist, Downstreet, Global Foundries, and the Village of Essex Junction. “We’re very proud to be recognized by the State of Vermont for our renewable roastery initiative. It’s been a long-sought dream of ours to be able to roast coffee with renewable energy,” said Paul Ralston, founder and CEO. “And, the feedback we’ve received from our customers is inspiring—they care about renewable energy as much as we do.”
About the Governor’s Award for Environmental ExcellenceAccording to Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation, the Vermont Governor's Awards were established in 1993 to recognize the actions taken by Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability. To date, more than 200 award-winning efforts of Vermont individuals, organizations, institutions, public agencies, and businesses have been recognized. These projects contribute significantly to protecting the environment, conserving energy and reducing the production of greenhouse gases. Together they have created a green and sustainable business culture, and advanced environmental education on all fronts.
About Vermont Coffee CompanyVermont Coffee Company is a small-town roaster located in Middlebury, Vermont. The big flavor and complex character of its certified-organic coffees are highlights of a unique style of slow-roasting to caramelize the beans—a process that founder Paul Ralston has perfected since the company began roasting commercially in 2000. Its organic coffee is sold in chain grocery stores, local markets and food co-ops throughout the Northeast. Products are also sold nationally via the company’s online store.
